Edet Bassey Akpakpan is a Professor of Economics at the University of Uyo, Nigeria. He received his B.Sc Degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan, M.Sc from the University of Wales, U. K., and Ph.D from the University of Manchester, England, U. K. His areas of interest are Economic Thought and Methodology, Development Economics, and Public Finance.
Professor Akpakpan has published many journal articles and several textbooks, including Economics Beyond Demand and Supply, Crossroads in Nigerian Development, How to Save the Naira and Nigeria, and The Economy: Towards a New Type of Economics. He has taught Economics at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, University of The Gambia, The Gambia, and University of Uyo, Nigeria.
In addition to teaching and research, Professor Akpakpan has served as consultant on Economic Affairs. He was a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja, from October 1995 to June 1998, Special Adviser to the Chief of General Staff (CGS), The Presidency, from August 1998 to May 1999, and Member of the Budget System Review Committee, Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja, from December 1999 to March 2000. He has also advised several private sector organizations on capacity building and management. He retired from teaching in November 2017 to focus on research and consultancy.
